Character and temperament

Chihuahuas are not lap dogs in the sense of being passive — they observe sharply, decide quickly and defend their family with conviction.

During imprinting we place particular emphasis on socialisation with large dogs, children and city noise, so that confidence never turns into insecurity.

Despite their size they need genuine walks; carrying bags are no substitute for movement.

Grooming and husbandry

  • Tartar is the most common issue: daily tooth brushing and annual check-ups.
  • Warming clothing in winter, as their small body mass stores little heat.
  • Have the fontanelle and patella checked regularly by your vet.

Frequently asked questions

Are chihuahuas really that vocal?

Only when insecurity or missing rules come into play. Well-socialised chihuahuas announce briefly and reliably settle again.
