Character and temperament

Pomeranians reliably announce what happens in the house. That alertness can be channelled early with a clear stop signal.

They learn quickly and love trick training; short sessions with food rewards work best.

Their confidence needs friendly consistency, otherwise they happily take charge.

Grooming and husbandry

  • Comb out the undercoat regularly, especially during the spring and autumn moult.
  • Never shave — the guard hair often regrows irregularly (post-clipping alopecia).
  • In heat, offer shade and cool floors; the dense coat traps warmth.

Frequently asked questions

Is a harness better than a collar?

Yes. Because of the sensitive trachea we always walk pomeranians on a well-fitting chest harness.
