Character and temperament
Maltese bond closely with their people and seek physical contact without becoming intrusive.
They are alert but rarely loud, provided they learn early that household noises are normal.
Their playfulness lasts into old age — short, frequent play sessions suit them better than long marches.
Grooming and husbandry
- Clean tear stains daily with lukewarm water and a soft cloth.
- The white coat needs a mild shampoo and thorough, slow drying.
- Dental care is central in this breed: brush daily from puppyhood onwards.

Are Maltese suitable for small children?
With clear rules, yes. Because of their light weight we prefer to place Maltese in households with children from around six years of age.
