A small dog in a city flat: what really matters
5 min · last updated 15/03/2026
The most frequent question in our first conversation is: is our flat big enough? Almost always the answer is yes — if the daily routine fits.
Three resting places instead of floor area
Plan a sleeping place in the bedroom, one in the living area and a quiet retreat away from through traffic.
Puppies sleep 18 to 20 hours a day. Undisturbed sleep matters more than any extra square metre.
Stairs, lifts and joints
In the first months carry your puppy up and down stairs — especially important for the miniature dachshund.
Accustom the dog to the lift early and in small steps; a non-slip surface helps a great deal.
